Youth Community Services

On Wednesday, June 25th, 2008, Youth Community Services joined forces with Collective Roots to clean up the trash and weeds at the Runnymede Street trailhead to the East Palo Alto Baylands. The group started out in the garden at East Palo Alto Charter School, and walked out to the adjacent trailhead to conduct their work. They want you to care

This is a historic beginning to a long-term initiative to begin cleaning up and re-claiming the East Palo Alto Baylands. Collective Roots is developing a conservation biology program that is focused on engaging youth and people of all ages in environmental restoraton projects. Youth Community Services is developing a watershed education project.

Collective Roots and Youth Community Services have history of working together to serve the youth and environment in East Palo Alto. We share a common belief that young people can and do make a difference when they are active and involved in community and environmental affairs. Just look at the faces of the young people in the picture above. (Click on the image to see more photos of the day's work in Flickr.) These amazing young people worked hard in the sun all day and collected dozens and dozens of bags of trash and weeds without one single complaint. Hopefully, the many folks who pass through this popular trailhead to the Baylands will appreciate their efforts. If you have some comments to share with these young people, please email us and let us know (click here to send a message).
