We are so excited to be teaming up with Whole Foods! They will be supporting us THIS WEDNESDAY by contributing 5% of net sales from two of their stores in San Mateo and Redwood City on their big 5% Day.

To celebrate, we will be holding a fun gardening activity at each of the stores at differing times:

  • San Mateo store from 11am - 1pm, and
  • Redwood City store from 4-6pm.

Weekly Garden Maintenance + Potluck

Join Collective Roots for our weekly gardening maintenance day! 

All ages are welcome to help our garden at 1785 Woodland Ave. grow! We learn to sow and save our seeds, plant our transplants, upkeep on weeding, watering, pruning, harvesting and other gardening activities! 

Every Thursday evening from 5:00PM - 7:30PM

Located at our main office 1785 Woodland Ave. East Palo Alto 

Wear gardening appropriate clothing, hats, and sunscreen! 

Bring your favorite healthy dish! Eat dinner with us under the beautiful oak trees.

All we require is that you sign a volunteer liability and media consent form. You may sign online on our website at http://www.collectiveroots.org/volunteer/ . Click on the weekly maintenance day picture, volunteer, and continue to fill out the online registration.

Collective Roots is happy to announce that our community garden at 1785 Woodland Ave., EPA will be one of the stops on the Common Ground Edible Garden Tour on Saturday, July 23. More information below:

The Tenth Annual Common Ground Edible Garden Tour will happen Saturday, July 23, from 10am to 4pm and will start at Common Ground Garden (687 Arastradero Rd., Palo Alto). Tour brochures can be picked up at Common Ground at 9:30am.

This lecture is in honor of Stephen H. Schneider, Stanford professor and world-renowned climate scientist who passed away in 2010.

There will be over 5,000 vegetable plants, herb starts, and succulents for you to choose from at the market to get your home garden started.

There will also be educational tables to help you select the best plants for your garden and tips on how best to plant, grow, and care for your new seedlings.

We have grown over 1500 seedlings, including a wide variety of organic tomato and tomatillo plants, squash, pepper, cucumber, okra, flowers, herbs, and other plants - perfect for your spring and summer gardens! 

All vegetable plants are grown using organic methods with organic soils and fertilizers. All plants have at least 6-8 weeks of growth, have been hardened off, and are ready to be planted. You can order 4-inch pot seedlings for $5 and 6.5-inch pot seedlings for $7.

Keep an eye on our Events Section to find additional seedling sale donation events around the Bay Area, as we will be continually be adding more.

Gardening Maintenance and Potluck Volunteer day (Weekly)

Join us for our weekly gardening maintenance and potluck volunteer day at Collective Roots!

Help maintain the community garden located at Collective Roots' main office. We do a variety of organic gardening tasks including: mulch and composting, soil maintenance, sowing seeds, transplanting, cultivation, harvesting, and companion planting. 

Wear clothes that are outdoor appropriate and closed-toe shoes. We have gloves but it's good to bring your own.

Children are welcome! Ages 8 and up. 

Signing a volunteer waiver is required. 

Location: 1785 Woodland Ave.  East Palo Alto CA

Time: 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM every Friday

Coastal Cleanup Day at Coyote Creek

Come out to celebrate Coastal Cleanup Day at Coyote Creek. Join neighbors, students, families, and friends to remove trash and beautify the creek. We are looking for 150 volunteers to remove a huge amount of trash from this 8-acre site. This is the former "Jungle" which housed 200 or more people until it closed in December last year. Great opportunity for community service hours and to see nature reclaim a very challenged landscape.

 

This fun event is guaranteed to increase your Trash Karma! All ages welcome. Volunteers needed to help with registration and photos as well as participate in the cleanup.
