Our volunteer maintenance day schedule is back to our Spring and Summer hours. Join us in the garden EVERY THURSDAY EVENING FROM 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM and 1ST SATURDAY MORNINGS FROM 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM (right after our gardening workshop)!

Girls' Club is looking for a garden and cooking teacher

Girls' Club of Mid Peninsula is looking for a gardening and cooking teacher!

Here are more details for the position:

We are looking for at least one gardening and one cooking instructor for girls ages 6-14 at The Girls' Club. Our classes are one hour, 5:20pm to 6:20pm and will run for about 18 weeks. We are offering a stipend that works out to around $17 per class. There may be opportunities to pick up extra work on days when kids do not have school, and to lead another weekly class after winter break. We are located next door to Cesar Chavez.

RESCHEDULED! Watering - Intro. to Drip Irrigation Workshop

This is an URGENT update for the 1st Saturday of the month garden workshop.

Due to the low sign-ups for this workshop, probably due to the holiday weekend, we will reschedule this garden workshop for next Saturday, July 8. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

FYI we will still have a potluck and maintenance from 11-12 PM this Saturday, July 1 if you would like to attend, you are more than welcome. Please bring a healthy dish to share with the rest of the volunteer group if you wish.

Healthy Plate Composition – Discovering what a healthy plate should look like with vegetables/fruits, lean protein, high-fiber starch, healthy fats, and limited dairy

In the garden, we will learn the basics of Planting – How to plant seeds/seedlings & plan orientation in the garden (including “Square-foot Gardening”).

EPA YMCA Family Day

 

Every year the EPA YMCA celebrate the children and families with an event, national healthy kids day, in order to educate the children and families on healthy eating habits and lifestyles and get a great kick start to their summer. 

There are going to be a varieties of fun activities for the families to enjoy such as, arts and crafts, face painting, indoor rock climbing, food, Zumba, raffles, group activities, challenges etc. Lots of fun for everyone. As a tradition, Collective Roots will be there with fun activities for the whole family!

Join us at the 2017 Earth Day Festival

ABOUT THIS EVENT 

The City of Palo Alto is teaming up with other cities - including East Palo Alto - and community partners to bring you the 2017 Earth Day Festival & Great Race for Saving Water. This FREE celebration of Earth Day will include activities, art, bike tours, bird walks, EV test drives, live music, prizes, zoo animals, community tabling, a visit from Smokey the bear, food and fun for the whole family, and more! The day starts off with the family-friendly Great Race for Saving Water, a fun 5k race and walk-a-thon for water conservation.

Collective Roots will be there celebrating Earth Day with fun activities and bringing our spring seedlings to offer to the community for a donation.

Greenhouse Preparation Workday

Collective Roots invites you to join us! We are super excited to bring in the New Year with our Annual Greenhouse Seedlings Project. We will start off with a wonderful garden workday at our 1785 Woodland Ave. Community Garden.

Thanks to a local boy scout troop, we recently installed a greenhouse at this site and are ready to begin growing. We invite you to help us build benches, prepare trays, and pots to set up the working space for the greenhouse. This is a community event so all are welcome to make this New Year start off great!

Garden maintenance days at our 1785 Woodland Ave. Community Garden will now be held every first and third Saturday of the month from 10AM-12PM.

Thursday evening maintenance days will be put on hold until early Spring because of shorter winter days.

Weekly Garden Maintenance + Potluck

Join Collective Roots for our weekly gardening maintenance day! 

All ages are welcome to help our garden at 1785 Woodland Ave. grow! We learn to sow and save our seeds, plant our transplants, upkeep on weeding, watering, pruning, harvesting and other gardening activities! 

Every Thursday evening from 5:00PM - 7:30PM

Located at our main office 1785 Woodland Ave. East Palo Alto 

Wear gardening appropriate clothing, hats, and sunscreen! 

Bring your favorite healthy dish! Eat dinner with us under the beautiful oak trees.

Collective Roots is happy to announce that our community garden at 1785 Woodland Ave., EPA will be one of the stops on the Common Ground Edible Garden Tour on Saturday, July 23. More information below:

The Tenth Annual Common Ground Edible Garden Tour will happen Saturday, July 23, from 10am to 4pm and will start at Common Ground Garden (687 Arastradero Rd., Palo Alto). Tour brochures can be picked up at Common Ground at 9:30am.
