Welcome to the Collective Roots

Great Seed Giveaway!

Friday, December 4th

Greetings fellow gardeners! Thank you so much for your interest in free seeds from Collective Roots. We have been simply awed (and we admit, a tiny bit overwhelmed) by the number of requests we've received.

After reaching a critical tipping point overnight (thanks to you twitterers), we decided that we would have to end our seed giveaway. We're pretty sure that every single last one of our extra seeds are now spoken for!

We'll be sending out seeds as quickly as we can - but please be patient with us.

May your garden bloom!

About Collective Roots:

Collective Roots is a nine-year-old nonprofit organization that runs award-winning gardening programs in six school sites in East Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and Redwood City. At each school site, we provide hands-on education that develops each child's unique abilities and connects them to the experience of growing and eating fresh, healthy food. While developing a life-long love of healthy eating, our students are also empowered to improve their community and protect our planet's fragile ecosystem.

We also operate the East Palo Alto Community Farmer's Market, now in its second season, providing healthy and affordable fruits and veggies from local farms and our own network of backyard gardeners. One of the only markets in Silicon Valley to utilize Fresh Checks, WIC, and EBT, this year alone we have given over $15,000 of fresh produce directly to the families who need it the most. With dignity and respect, families are able to come and get both free and affordable farm-fresh produce for their tables.

Collective Roots is about sowing the seeds of change, hope, and renewal - one garden at a time.
"The garden developed by Collective Roots is one of the community’s greatest assets. One step into the garden and you are transported to a magical place, full of lush greenery, fluttering birds, and a collection of produce lovingly grown by children from this community. We recognize that the garden not only symbolizes a sustainable healthy food source in this community, but it also represents a peaceful place where children can connect with nature and find a tranquil respite from the challenges and chaos that plague the lives of many of the children in EPA. From the pediatrician’s perspective, working in this positive environment has an immeasurable impact on the mental health and wellbeing of these children—a health and social benefit that these children will carry with them for years to come."
