High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS)

High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) is marker constituent for junk foods. Cheaper than sucrose, it is contained within many kinds of processed food, especially soft drinks. There is nearly as much of it in the food supply as sucrose--56 pounds per year per person versus 62 pounds for table sugar. HFCS is metabillized to fat, and is considered a leading contributor to the current pandemic of obesity in children and people of all ages. HFCS supplies calories but is devoid of nutrients. The American Corn Refiners have launched a major counter attack on the FDA and leading health scientists, trying to assure the public that HFCS isn't so bad for our health. Surely there has to be something better to do with corn than process it into a food that has no nutrients and causes obesity.
