Quarter Time Garden Educator

We are excited to offer an Americorps position beginning in early March 2012 until the end of August 2012. This position is an average of 20 hours per week. The Americorps member will be a part of the Silicon Valley HealthCorps, and will work with our Garden Based Education programs as a Garden Educator.

Collective Roots: Garden Educator HealthCorps position (20-hours per week)

Collective Roots is a part of the Silicon Valley HealthCorps, an innovative partnership with The Health Trust, AmeriCorps and 11 local organizations. The goal of this collaboration is to use gardens, farm to school programs and the work of AmeriCorps members to bring fresh fruits, vegetables and education to residents of Santa Clara and San Mateo counties.
The Garden Educator position is approximately 20-hours a week, from mid-March, 2012 – August 31, 2012 (with an opportunity to reapply for the 2012-2013 term).

Garden Educator will support Garden-Based Education at Collective Roots’ multiple school sites in East Palo Alto, Menlo Park and Redwood City in the following ways:

• prepare for and implement garden, environmental, nutrition and food curriculum in programs for preschool – highschool aged students;
• support the garden programs by helping with class planning and preparation;
• Assistance with garden maintenance, tool and materials maintenance and other organization;
• document programs for the Collective Roots website and e-newsletter;
• using available resources, create and document curriculum for educational programs;
• assist with projects to maintain and improve the garden and garden programs;
• assist with monthly Saturday garden work day
