Environmental Action
Environmental Advocacy, Policy, and Land Use Initiative
East Palo Alto and other low-income communities in the Bay Area are experiencing profound changes. Collective Roots Environmental Action programs are focused on preserving open space, ensuring equity and access to natural and safe environments, advocating for food access and security, establishing land trusts, lobbying for mitigation of toxic sites, and preserving open space for future generations.
Current program elements include:
- Building awareness of environmental justice issues in the community, and developing research and resources that can be used environmental advocacy and change.
- Formation of a urban agriculture land trust focused on preserving land for food production in low income communities. We seek collaboration with regional organizations performing this work, such as the Trust for Public Land, the Bay Area Open Space Council, and local foundations supporting agricultural preservation.
- We seek establishment of a capital campaign for acquisition of a permanent urban agriculture site.
- Support the growing movement in East Palo Alto and other low income communities that is fighting to remove and mitigate the presence of toxic elements and sites in the community.
