For more than 20 years, East Palo Alto residents have had to drive out of town to grocery shop. Despite deals by city leaders and prayers from local clergy, supermarkets have bypassed the small, working-class Peninsula town.

But on Sunday, locals will finally have their own place to buy berries and broccoli, apricots and yams. East Palo Alto is getting its first certified farmers market.
