Center for Healthy Weight Offers Enthusiastic Support for East Palo Alto Community Farmers' Market
The physicians, dieticians, researchers, and public health advocates of the Center for Healthy Weight at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital and the Stanford University of Medicine have offered their enthusiastic support of the East Palo Alto Community Farmer’s Market (EPA-CFM) project.
Michelle Oppen, MPH, Program Director, Center for Healthy Weight, states: “The EPA-CFMOC seeks to promote community spirit by fostering social interaction among the city’s residents and local vendors; to enhance the quality of life by providing a recurring forum for youth and consumers to receive health education; to learn the benefits of quality organic and/or locally grown food products complemented by healthy eating habits; to provide leadership and employment training to local youth; and finally to preserve and sustain a precious piece of East Palo Alto’s agricultural heritage and history. We congratulate the City and its residents on their vision and their resolve to positively overcome challenging circumstances. It is with great appreciation for the efforts of the EPA-CFMOC that the Center for Healthy Weight offers its wholehearted support to the East Palo Alto Community Farmers’ Market project and its efforts to advance the well-being, health, and development of the city of East Palo Alto.”
