“Nature-deficit disorder is not an official diagnosis but a way of viewing the problem, and describes the human costs of alienation from nature, among them: diminished use of the senses, attention difficulties, and higher rates of physical and emotional illnesses. The disorder can be detected in individuals, families, and communities.”
— Richard Louv, Last Child in the Woods
The Children and Nature Network has published two new outstanding reports. The first, Children and Nature 2008: A Report on the Movement to Reconnect Children to the Natural World, is the best and most comprehensive overview of what is actually happening at a grassroots and national level. It's filled with very useful and interesting information. You can reach their site by clicking here. The report is in the right-hand column.
