Collective Roots Creates Wildlife Certified Habitats
Collective Roots gardens are developed with organic and sustainable practices that include the idea that our garden spaces provide habitat for wildlife.
Collective Roots is participating in the National Wildlife Foundation (NWF) program that allows us to certify our garden sites as habitats.
Here are some reasons why Collective Roots participates in the NWF Certified Wildlife Habitat program:
-
It's fun! Watching wildlife in action can be fun and relaxing for everyone. We want our habitats to attract beautiful songbirds, butterflies, frogs, and other interesting wildlife for viewing from our school gardens.
-
Curb appeal! Replacing asphalt and grass lawns with native wildflowers, shrubs, and trees will increase the beauty of our schools and provide a nurturing refuge for wildlife.
-
Bring wildlife home! Restoring habitats where commercial and residential development have degraded natural ecosystems can be our way of giving back to wildlife.
-
Eco-friendly! Gardening practices that help wildlife, like reducing the use of chemicals, conserving energy and water, and composting also help to improve air, water and soil quality.
-
Community! Gardening for wildlife can help us share our love of wildlife with our neighbors and help them get involved in creating a home for wildlife.
Since our schoolyard habitat is certified by NWF, we can display an attractive Certified Wildlife Habitat sign that conveys our commitment to wildlife conservation and the environment, and help spread the word to our neighbors.
