Volunteer Opportunities with Collective Roots

Join the “growing” community of volunteers who play a vital role in sustaining and developing Collective Roots’ programs that make a difference in the lives of youth and their families. Collective Roots could not exist without this essential support. Please consider sharing your time and expertise with Collective Roots. Volunteers are provided with many different ways to serve…soliciting and bringing donated plants to Collective Roots garden sites, propagating plants, assisting garden teachers, supporting garden based projects, developing curriculum kits and materials, supporting weekly garden club and monthly garden work day events, working in the garden or in the office, and much more. We provide a wide range of opportunities for individuals, students, and groups who are interested in giving just a little time as well as those who are interested in establishing an ongoing relationship. In order to join our efforts, please review the following information that outlines our volunteer needs and requirements and then complete the volunteer (individual) application or (group) application and agreement that concludes this document.

Monthly Volunteer Orientations
We encourage all prospective volunteers to come to our monthly orientations (held twice monthly: please RSVP). These orientations provide an introduction to our staff and programs, and allow for an opportunity to design a volunteer experience that will fulfill the needs of everyone involved. If you are part of a group, then we can schedule an orientation to accommodate your group’s availability on the day of the event.

  • 1st Tuesdays 3—5pm
  • 3rd Wednesdays 5—7pm

Training
These workshops are open to the general community and provide volunteers and interns with the opportunity to gain knowledge of a variety of garden related topics. The workshops are free, although we encourage donations based upon ability to pay.

  • Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall Training Workshops (2-4 hours: dates to be announced)
  • Annual Training Seminar (1-3 days: dates to be announced)
