Farmers Market Manager

Collective Roots, in partnership with the Ravenswood Family
Health Center and the East Palo Alto Farmers Market Organizing Committee, is seeking a part-time manager for the East Palo Alto Community Farmers’ Market (“EPA Market”).  The position is open until filled, beginning at the earliest convenience of the newly hired Market Manager. 

Hours and Compensation

The position is expected, but not guaranteed, to be ~20-25 hours per week from January through April, and ~15 hours per week in April when the market is in full operation.  Compensation is $15/hr.  This a non-exempt hourly position with no benefits.

 

Location

From January through April, The Market Manager will work
mostly at the Collective Roots office on 1785 Woodland Ave, with some travel around East Palo Alto to attend meetings with partners.  When the farmers market starts in April, the
manager will be expected to attend the market in full at the Ravenswood Family Health Center (RFHC).

Responsibilities:

Through April: Transition Period

·        
Help transition materials and plan for the opening of the new market at RFHC in April

·        
Conduct outreach and promotion about new market location and time

·        
Contact and recruit farmers to attend new Farmers Market

·        
Create a regular programming schedule to provide diverse cultural activities at the EPA Market

·        
Meet weekly with Food System Change Coordinator,
provide reports and information as needed

·        
Attend weekly Staff Meetings (Tues, 9:30-10:30)
and Garden Work Time (Thurs, 9:30-10:30)

April and Beyond: Market Operation

  • Set up, break down, and take care of market operations equipment.
  • Schedule vendor attendance, and assign market stall spaces.
  • Serve as main on-site enforcer of all market rules and regulations.
  • Ensure an open stream of communications with vendors.
  • Collect and process vendor fees, reimbursements, and all other paperwork.
  • Provide the highest level of customer service to vendors and shoppers.
  • Implement food stamp transactions for participating customers

Qualifications and Experience:

·        
An interest in providing fresh, healthy,
affordable produce to East Palo Alto residents

·        
Access to email or a cell phone

·        
Bilingual or highly proficient in Spanish

·        
Familiarity with basic word processing and
computing

·        
Excellent interpersonal and customer
service skills.

·        
Proven leadership and problem solving skills.

·        
Cultural competency and experience working in low-income communities of color.

 

Since travel in the community and the region will be necessary, the candidate must provide his/her own means for transportation.
