To Whom It May Concern:
On behalf of [SUBMIT NAME OF ORGANIZATION] I offer our enthusiastic support of the East Palo Alto Community Farmers’ Market (EPA-CFM) project.
The City of East Palo Alto is situated on the San Francisco Peninsula within the county of San Mateo, California. The City encompasses approximately 2.5 square miles and hosts a uniquely diverse and vibrant population of over 30,000 residents, many of whom are passionately dedicated to the City’s continual improvement and growth.
In spite of these advantages however, the City lacks a full service grocery store or supermarket that offers high quality fresh fruit and vegetables. The residents and community based organizations of East Palo Alto desire to change these disparate circumstances.
We support the efforts of the East Palo Alto Community Farmers’ Market Organizing Committee (EPA-CFMOC) that has been working to fulfill the dream of engaging the community and youth in dramatically improving the food system, including the establishment of the EPA Community Farmer’s Market, scheduled to open in Spring of 2008. This same group is advocating for additional improvements in the food system including attraction a full-service supermarket to the city of East Palo Alto and its residents.
The mission of the EPA-CFMOC is to provide the City’s residents and consumers with an improved, broad, and diverse selection of certified, quality grown produce, in addition to other locally, handcrafted arts & crafts. Local farmers and gardeners will also be encouraged to participate and sell their produce. Additionally, the EPA-CFMOC seeks to promote community spirit by fostering social interaction among the city’s residents and local vendors; to enhance the quality of life by providing a recurring forum for youth and consumers to receive health education; to learn the benefits of quality organic and/or locally grown food products complemented by healthy eating habits; to provide leadership and employment training to the local youth; and finally to preserve and sustain a precious piece of East Palo Alto’s agricultural heritage and history.
We at the [SUBMIT NAME OF ORGANIZATION] believe the EPACFM project represents a perfect example of the positive benefits that can result from effective collaboration among a City’s residents, local government, and leaders from among the health, education, recreation and youth services sectors.
We congratulate the City and its residents on their vision and their resolve to positively overcome challenging circumstances. It is with great appreciation for the efforts of the EPA-CFMOC that the [SUBMIT NAME OF ORGANIZATION] offers its wholehearted support to the East Palo Alto Community Farmers’ Market project and its efforts to advance the well-being, health, and development of the city of East Palo Alto.
Good luck with this very important work!
Sincerely,
