Happy Spring!

The sweet scent of the flowering wisteria, the bright layers of the ranuncula flowers, the greenhouse full of leafy starts and the profusion of garden weeds are sure signs that spring is here!

To prepare our Collective Roots garden beds for spring planting, we have been amending the soil with compost, turning in covercrops, weeding, and taking care of greenhouse seedlings.

Winter Garden Sampler and the December 13th Workday

The garden is a winter wonderland these days!  How lucky we are to live in this mild climate, with creative gardening opportunities all year round!

Here is a sample of the happenings in the Collective Roots garden:

Autumn Equinox and the November 22nd Work Day

PB101284

September 22nd, 2008 was the Autumn Equinox.  This was the day marking the beginning of autumn and the second day of the year when sunlight and darkness hours are equal (the other is the Vernal Equinox, in the spring).  Each day following the Autumn Equinox, the days grow shorter and shorter, until the Winter Solstice, or longest night of the year, on December 21th.
