Enlightening the sometimes mysterious process of where food comes from and how it gets to the plate, East Palo Alto Charter School is doing more than serve fresh vegetables at lunch.
On Mondays through Thursdays, students enrolled in the garden elective take food education out of the classroom and cafeteria — and into the school garden.

More than 500 People Attend LAUSD School Garden Fair
With many hoping to plant seeds that will result in school gardens sprouting on their campuses, hundreds of school teachers, administrators, parents, students and volunteers flocked to North Hollywood, Saturday, for the 2nd Annual Los Angeles School Garden Resource Fair.
"I applaud the hundreds of educators, students and parents who attended the resource fair because they understand the educational value that campus-based school gardens bring to our children," said Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Board Member Julie Korenstein, who addressed the crowd and encouraged educators to launch school gardens on their campuses.

Congratulations to Bay Area Gardener Catalino Tapia from Collective Roots. Catalino was featured again in the San Francisco Chronicle for his work developing a scholarship fund to help struggling college students. Since he started the Bay Area Gardeners’ Foundation in 2007, the donations have come pouring in. Tapia's story was picked up by National Public Radio, the "CBS Evening News" and other national and local media. The foundation has received $137,060 since The Chronicle story appeared October 15, 2007.
